Get out and get walking! Posted December 6, 2012
As we are constantly told by the media, our doctors and other health professionals exercise plays a vital role in keeping our hearts healthy, reducing the risk of Type 2 Diabetes and keeping us in good shape overall. We like to encourage our guests to get out and about and see as much of the lovely surroundings here at Loughconnolly as they can during their stay.
So aside from health benefits why else do we encourage walking. Well first of all walking gives us the opportunity to clarify our thoughts and take a break from the hectic pace of life and to solve problems we may be facing. It also can help us reduce our stress levels, by taking a stroll in a scenic location you are more likely to focus on the beautiful surroundings and less on what’s making you stressed.
You don’t have to travel to any specific location for a walk, you could try somewhere you haven’t been before, you never know what gems could be hiding round the corner. What could be more enjoyable than exploring the world around us, you never know what you’ll see or who you’ll bump into.
Luckily there are many great locations nearby where you can take a leisurely stroll, or a hike if that’s more your thing.
At approximately 2.4 km this is a circular route along the Braid River, the Knockan Road and the Main Street in Broughshane. Sometimes there is nothing more relaxing than taking a stroll beside a river, there is something magical about flowing water.
Enjoy a circular walk over the volcanic plug of Slemish Mountain and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Approximately 2 Km.
Lovely all year round, but especially at the end of April and start of May when the bluebells are in full boom, a dazzling display of colour. There are two circular trails in Portglenone Forest. Approximately 1.7 & 2.3 Km.
Two circular walks situated within the 150-acre site at the ecos millennium environmental centre. These walks are approximately 3.3 & 1Km.
We’ll happily provide you with directions to these great places.
